Types Of Stainless Cookware
Types of stainless cookware often tops the popular cookware options for various reasons. It is more common than other kinds of cookware because it is very durable and tends to last longer than the other cookware in the market. Stainless steel also has the ability to preserve the taste of food and the varied flavors. This is unlike other types of cookware that may chip and interfere with the food’s flavor.
Stainless steel has a very appealing appearance owing to its shiny mirrored finishing. Apart from all this, stainless steel preserves heat and thus enables the food to cook evenly. Being recyclable, stainless steel reduces a lot of waste. Stainless steel’s material makes it easy to clean and is more preferred. There are different types of stainless steel depending on the major ingredients used to make them. Majority of them fall under the 300 series and are referred to as austenitic steel. These types are composed of chromium (16% and above) and manganese or nickel to ensure stability in both extremely cold and hot temperatures. They also contain carbon to make them harder and stronger. The T304 surgical type is used in making waterless cookware. It is made up of more than 20% of chromium and about 10% of nickel laced with some 0.08% carbon. Its ability to resist corrosion from acids in milk, fruits, vegetables and meats makes it more suitable in the manufacture of cream dispensers, sinks, stoves, tabletops, refrigerators and coffee urns. Type 316 has less chromium and higher levels of nickel besides 2% molybdenum making it highly resistant to chloride corrosion. As such, it is more suitable to manufacturing marine items which are likely to be corroded by deicing salts and sea water. There are also ferritic, martensitic and duplex types of stainless steel. The ferritic type is highly resistant to corrosion but less durable as compared to the austenitic type. On the other hand, martensitic type is normally hardened by heat and is thus very strong. However, it is susceptible to corrosion. Duplex type of stainless steel is made by amalgamation of the austenitic and ferritic types to create a stronger version of stainless steel than both. It is known for its durability as well as its ability to resist corrosive things as compared to all other stainless steel types. Generally, stainless steel is used by many cookware companies including the Emeril's cookware. Though it is pricy, it is safer for cooking purposes and lasts longer meaning less trips to shop for cookware.
