About Genetic Engineering

About Genetic Engineering There are many people that have been enquiring about genetic engineering. This type of engineering deals with discovering and identification of DNA both in plants, animals and human beings. Excessive research has been done in this area and the results have had great implications in the medical field. In genetic studies the individual genes of an organism have been manipulated to observe the reactions of the DNA and the outcomes are usually controlled. In the USA, there was a discovery by an engineer in training who discovered that if the proteins in a gene are manipulated in a certain way; they can be restructured to a desired outcome. This is the concept that has been used in cloning technology. For scientists to perform these genetic manipulations, they first isolate the genes that they want to alter their effects using a chain reaction that allows them to remove the introns. The resulting gene is then inserted into a vector like liposome that is a kind of organism that transmits pathogens. After this enzymes are used to join the gene to the vector by weakening their defenses. This is then transferred into the DNA through an injection. The final stage is usually to separate those cell that did not transform from those ones that transformed. There are two types of these kinds of experiments; the first one being the loss function where some genes are removed from the organism that allows for the individual analysis of the gene functions. The second type of experiment is the gain experiment that involves the inducing of protein synthesis within the gene. This is mostly done to determine the effects of gene enhancements. These two experiments help to determine which genes are necessary for development. The most used experiment is the loss function. Genetic engineering has many benefits in human beings; and over the years, it has become quite relevant and useful. There have been many modifications that have been done and these have allowed scientists to allow them to inject healthy genes to those genes that have a problem. This is commonly known as somatic modification. There are also alterations in sperms and eggs that are done in order to get a desired effect and the modifications are usually transferred to the offspring. Genetic engineering has mostly been used to find cure for diseases in both humans and plants. The aim is usually to find a way of strengthening the gene to protect it from certain diseases and to make it resistant.
